RIP Posterous

Well, this appears to be one of those cases in which things end with a whimper, rather than a bang, but Posterous Spaces, the easy to use blogging platform, shut down on 30 April. There does not seem to be much rending of garments and gnashing of teeth, and given that they made the death announcement back in February, and Twitter acquired Posterous Spaces in 2012, the shut down has been a long time coming. I happened to really like Posterous for a few reasons (see this, and this):

  • Clean design
  • Easy to use
  • A nice quick place to post more than a tweet but less than post
  • All via email (if you wanted)

Before Facebook snapped up Instagram, ended it as a phone-only-experience, made it accessible via the the web, and basically started a mini-war with Twitter, I loved using Posterous to post IG shots. I also had some good experience creating a team blog. No doubt, Tumblr pretty much trounced Posterous, and the former’s success contributed mightily to this shut-down. I for one enjoyed the platform, found it useful and am somewhat sad to see it go.

RIP Posterous

If you seek a replacement you can shift to Posthaven for $5/month blogs — they have an interesting pledge, and were founded by a couple of Posterous co-founders.
