Why do you want a website?

This question seems silly in the world in which we live: a world in which much of our lives is spent using, interacting and searching for information stored on the web.

The easy answer to the question “why do you want a website” is “Because you need a website.”

As you consider building, rebuilding or overhauling your site, be ready to be an active participant in a lengthy and sometimes challenging conversation. Engaging a partner, with a neutral point of view, can help facilitate this conversation and distill your goals in order to produce a site that resonates with your customers and helps advance your business goals.

Below is a partial list of questions that we ask when start to work with a client:

  • What industry are you in?
  • What can you tell us about your business?
  • What are your business goals?
  • Who are your competitors?
  • What do you like about your site? (if you have one)
  • What do you dislike about your site? (if you have one)
  • How do you use your site now? (if you have one)
  • What do/would you want your site to do?
  • Who visits your site? (if you have one)
  • Who maintains/administers your site? (if you have one)

These are just a smattering of questions that we would ask. They would lead us down a path to understand the “why” so that we could begin to work on the “how” and the “what” of your site project.
